“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)
GMMA January 2018 Monthly Newsletter
Happy New Year! I am entrusting GMMA to His provision as we continue to serve together in His movement for 2018. Christ is the center and His presence will pave the way for faith in action, with glorious outcomes!
I want to share with you a few precious moments from the December 16-20th mission trip to La Mision, Mexico. A team of 39: students from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, US Riverside, University of Sydney Australia and professionals attended in full force. We serviced patients at the Siloe Clinic, led children’s ministry, worshipped together every night, shared heartfelt testimonies, and took prayer walks together to share some of the ways that we were blessed during the trip.
One particular ministry, that provides housing for young single moms, gripped at my heart. The resident mothers ranged in the ages of 13-21. Some children were born due to the result of rape. The babies were between the ages of 2 months to 4 years. Our team put together a Christmas program for them, and afterwards, I was asked to say a few words. When it was over, the charge nun told me through an interpreter, “I have tried very hard over the years to introduce these women to God, but no one seems to know God. While you were speaking, I saw two girls were weeping. I hope they were able to understand and feel who God is and His great love for them. Thank you for your visit.” I was moved to ask the nun if we could spend more time with these mothers. So, while our students served the children, I presented the full gospel to the mothers, and eight women prayed with me to receive Christ into their hearts. I was moved beyond words. Christ brought them to His love through our small obedience of loving them! As I left the house, I felt such love for these precious young souls who were thrust into a grown-up world with the heavy burden of forced motherhood. Then a sudden thought of how much He loves each and every one of us overwhelmed my heart. We went to share God’s love, but I was the one leaving more blessed to know His amazing, incomprehensible love for me.
From this experience, I want us to remember that no matter how large GMMA becomes, let us never forget the loving heart of Jesus who rescued that one lost sheep in His care. May 2018 start off with each of us loving and building each other up, and with this strength, help others to know His love, one person at a time. One by one, we can change the world.
In His Service,
Peter Chung M.D
From December 16th to 20th, Dr. Peter Chung, Sr. led a team of 10 other professionals, 2 GMMA staffers, and 23 students from the UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Riverside, and Sydney Chapters on a mission trip to Baja Mexico. Throughout the trip, the students rotated between doing outreach/children’s ministry and helping out at the Siloe Clinic. In addition, they also heard testimonies from different health care professionals, had early morning Bible study, and had a time of praise and worship every day. Throughout the trip, the students received both medical and spiritual guidance from the various healthcare professionals, mentors, and staff. On the last night, everyone shared not only their experiences, but also what they were able to take away from the trip.
Because of the distance between the campuses, everyone was not able to all meet until the day of the trip. However, each member was able to form genuine relationships and learned to love each other as brothers and sisters of Christ. The team was able to be vulnerable with each other, encourage one another, and understand the joy in serving God through medical missions. The trip provided an opportunity to get a glimpse of how to combine love for God with passion for healthcare. The trip reinforced, in many of the students, the importance of utilizing the passion and tools God provides to ultimately serve him and his people. Moreover, the students shared that the trip also affirmed that GMMA truly is a family of God’s children. Hallelujah!
Thank you for praying for the December team. There are multiple GMMA mission teams going out both in January and February. Please keep them in your prayers!
How intimately do we know God’s name? As much as we know God’s name personally, we glorify Him through our prayers. Please lift up the GMMA student chapters and mission efforts for the kingdom of God.

Professional Activities Highlights
Many activities for the month of December! Some members got engaged, some members attended mission trips, and all served in their respective places. The GMMA Christmas Party was attended by over 100 members including 9 members from Australia. It was a wonderful time of sharing, great food, entertainment, and prayer. We thank Dr. Hongshik Kim for hosting the event at his house. We watched together of how faithful God was to GMMA for 2017 and thanked the Lord together.
Alex, Minjae, Sarah, and Esther, our young professional leaders, made time and visited a dumpster site and other needy communities in Mexico to deliver gifts and encouragements. This was a beautiful display of the power of faith in Christ, that moves us to serve with joy.
Dr. Jen Roh shared her heart with the students of the Canada chapter for their winter leaders retreat.
We thank the Lord for all the professionals who are living out their faith.
If you know any healthcare professionals who would gladly serve as mentors for these chapters, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

We have amazing workshop speakers joining us for the conference. We will all be able to learn so much. This month features a specialist in disaster and crisis response. His organization trains and prepares churches and groups to be helping agents of God.
Sean Malone – Workshop Speaker
CRI (Crisis Response International) Founder and Director
While involved in the motion pictures industry in New York, CRI Founder and Director, Sean Malone found a front row seat at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks, where he provided lighting for the search and rescue operations. This is where the seeds for being involved in crisis response work were planted. In 2007 he officially launched Crisis Response International, and since then has trained thousands of Responders to reach the Harvest in the midst of crisis. Crisis Response International (CRI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that resources, trains, and mobilizes volunteers, churches and other organizations to respond to disasters and compassion initiatives around the world.
Today, Crisis Response International has trained and mobilized over 3,500 Crisis Responders into the harvest field of crisis, but the work is far from over. More people need to be trained. More missionaries need to be supported. The unfinished task of the Gospel in all nations is before us. Crisis and disasters are shaking cities and nations, and our belief is that they won’t stop until the return of Christ. Yet, at the same time, we believe this is the Church’s greatest hour. We have the Answer and Hope that the rest of the world is looking for, yet our voice has not been heard as clear as it needs to and should be. But there is hope.
