President’s Greeting

Dear Beloved Family of GMMA,
I recently returned from leading another team to Honduras. What a privilege it is to serve our Lord! Every trip is so special with unique gifts and blessings. This time, 19 of 54 students accepted Christ as their savior and we were able to baptize them at the nearby water stream.

Kristen! Do you believe you are a sinner? Yes, Do you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Yes!! Then by the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I baptize you!!

One by one, 19 precious students were baptized and starting life anew in HIM. One night, after heartfelt worship, praise and massage, all 64 of us knelt before HIS throne to either turn our life completely to HIM or rededicate our life to HIM. It was an incredible time where the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was felt by everyone in the room.

“All the authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19.

We are experiencing moments of the last words of our Savior’s commandment to His disciples before HIS return to heaven!  We all felt the beauty of HIS blessing through shared fellowship.  By HIS authority, everyone made the decision to come home to HIS heart. I could hardly contain my joy and tears of thanksgiving. HIS presence experienced in one room inside the mission center in Honduras is ingrained in my heart.  It renewed HIS revelation of compassion, love, and grace in my heart. GMMA continues to write new chapters to His ministry with every effort He enables in and through us.  Be encouraged my brothers and sisters and let us continue to pursue and experience Him greater. GMMA and its life-changing stories would not be possible without the fervent prayers and dedication of faithful servants like you.  Thank you all.  It is truly humbling to witness HIS glory and serve as His servant.  May the fire He ignited continue to burn and grow brightly with our obedience to His calling.  We say Yes to Him.

For His Glory,
Peter Chung, M.D.

Featured Plenary Speaker

Dr. Lloyd Kim: Coordinator, Mission to the World

Lloyd Kim was elected coordinator of Mission to the World (MTW) by the 2015 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America. A native of California, he graduated from UC Berkeley with an engineering degree and worked as a consultant with Ernst & Young before getting his M.Div. at Westminster Seminary in California and his doctorate in New Testament Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. He was the associate pastor at New Life Mission Church (PCA) in Fullerton, California, before joining MTW.

Lloyd and his wife Eda served as missionaries with MTW beginning in 2004 in the Philippines and then in Cambodia, where they initiated a new church-planting work which grew to a team of 20 working in multiple sites. Lloyd served as MTW’s international director of the Asia-Pacific region before his nomination as MTW coordinator in July of 2014. The Kims have three children and reside in Lilburn, Georgia.

Featured Workshop Speaker

Pastor Antonio Rojas: Founder of Happy Hearts, Peru

Pastor Antonio Rojas studied Psychology at the National University of San Marcos and Theology at the Alliance Biblical Seminary in Peru. He was a prosperous businessman who, together with his wife, decided to leave the business world to pastor the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Cono Norte Callao, Lima – Peru. Pastor Rojas always had compassion for the poor families of Peru, and after some miraculous signs, he founded the Happy Hearts Association in 2005. In 2007 he founded the Missionary Training School (EDEM), which intensively trains young people who want to do short and medium term missions in Peru. He will be sharing about how God allowed some of the greatest adventures in his life and ministry.

Missions

On February 17th, Dr. Sarah Oh led a team of 41 people (professionals, post-grads + students from UCSB, UCSD, UCR) to Tecate, Mexico to serve at Vida Nueva Church. Since the team had a ratio of 1:1 health professional to student, each student was able to shadow the health profession of their choosing. The students also did body worship, played games, and performed both comical and touching skits for the children. the main focus of the trip wasn’t to treat the people of Mexico, gain shadowing experience, or entertain the children. Instead, the main focus was to spread the Gospel and to love on the people of Mexico because He first loved us. Medicine was merely a condiment for spreading the Gospel. Because the team emphasized this message tremendously during the training sessions, many of the members gained the confidence to step out of their comfort zones and pray for the patients at the mission site.

On the same day, Dr. Peter Chung, Jr. led a team of 7 professionals, 4 graduate students, and 18 undergraduate students on a two-day trip to Baja Mexico. On the first day, the team set up clinic at the newly built Siloé Ministries clinic. The students were able to shadow professionals, while also ministering to children at the Door of Faith Orphanage. There, the team performed skits, taught VBS songs, and did crafts with the children. On Day 2, the team served at Casa del Jardin, a shelter for child survivors of human trafficking. One of the praise reports from the trip was that Casa del Jardin was a beautiful blessing in which the team got to share life with amazing children of God. The team felt that they came to serve the people at Casa del Jardin, but in the end everyone served each other.

Professional Activity Highlights

Each month GMMA professionals are serving in various capacities in different states and
countries. Below are just a few highlights.

Serving as lecturers to medical students in Ethiopia
Early February, Oncologist Dr. David Choi lectured on Hematology and Hospitalist Dr. Eunice Kwon
lectured on Infectious Diseases at the medical school in Ethiopia. They were blessed by witnessing the faithfulness of God to the people of Ethiopia. Some retired physicians from the US are serving as clinical instructors. We are thankful for the dedicated clinicians of GMMA scheduling their time to serve abroad throughout the year. The hospital welcomes all GMMA clinicians to come share and teach the students of this Christian hospital built by a church in Korea. The hospital provides jobs for over 500 Ethiopians and is a significant channel to share the love of Christ. You can contact missions@gmma7.org to sign up. We pray for 12 clinicians for 12 months of the year to provide instruction to raise up the next generation of faithful clinicians in Ethiopia as well.

Health Panel Event
UCI with collaboration of California chapters and professionals coordinated the West Coast Professional Health Panel for the students. Over a hundred students attended the event from various chapters. It took place at Bethel Church. Professionals made themselves available to share about their specialties and be available to converse and pray with the students. This is a much-appreciated annual event. Other GMMA chapters are also hosting these events to encourage our students. Below are the professionals who served this day. We acknowledge and thank them.
